An Unexpected Fun Morning

February 6, 2006 - By Jen

Since I’m a little over 28 weeks pregnant now, I’ve been needing to get into the lab for my 1 hour glucose test that screeens for gestational diabetes. Having blood drawn, however, isn’t my favorite thing to do.

The last time I had blood taken was at the beginning of this pregnancy: I nearly passed out and almost vomited. So I decided it might be a good idea to bring Aaron along this time. I’ve been dreading this test for weeks, but having Aaron along really helped. First I had to drink a really sweet glucose solution (I didn’t mind–I have quite the sweet tooth). Then Aaron and I played a game of “Five Crowns” while we waited the hour. And then it was time to have the blood taken, but it really wasn’t bad at all! I counted backwards in Spanish, starting at 100 (to distract me). By the time I reached 85 she was done. Very quick and painless, and no passing out! It was great.

Now the best part was what happened next. Aaron and I picked up Kayla from a friend’s house, and then we all went to Stan’s restaurant downtown for breakfast! Yummy! It was a super fun and special time together. If having blood taken means more times like this, sign me up!
