Baby Kerr on the Move

December 20, 2003 - By Aaron Kerr

Seventeen weeks into the pregnancy, Jen has started feeling our baby move inside her quite a bit. There have been a lot of great things about being pregnant so far, but this is definitely one of the coolest yet.

We were driving home from seeing “The Last Samurai” last Saturday night when Jen all of a sudden says, “Whoa! What was that.” It was her first time feeling our baby move. She wasn’t totally sure if that was what the sensation she had felt was, but it didn’t take long to confirm it. It happened more the next day and happens on a regular basis now.

The baby seems to get the most active during the evening. Jen will feel the baby sometimes during the day, but usually not in the morning. She also feels it most when she is sitting down. She has read that when she is up and walking around, the baby often is lulled asleep by the movements. Sometimes the baby will start moving and Jen won’t want to stand up because it is so fun to feel the baby move. It is very reassuring for this pregnancy to know that the baby is alive and active each day.

Every once in a while, Jen will feel the baby on one side and then on the other side a few minutes later. I kid her that it is twins, but that’s not very likely. We’ll know for sure at our ultrasound in January, but I expect there’s really just one. We’re very excited and can’t wait to hold our baby in our arms.
