Today I used my bread machine to make homemade bagels for the first time. It was a fun adventure! Actually, I was suprised by how easy they were to make. The dough, made of whole wheat and bread flour, honey, salt, water and yeast, only took 50 minutes in the bread machine. Then I cut the dough into pieces, rolled them into circles and let them rise. After that I boiled them in water for 30 seconds, sprinkled them with toppings (sesame seeds, poppy seeds, dried onion), and baked them for 8 minutes. Kayla and I both really liked them.
It’s obvious that I’m in my second trimester with all the things I’m attempting to do these days. I’ve tried about 5 new recipes in the past week or so. In the first trimester I’m far to sick to consider a new recipe (and if I were to make one I would never want to eat it again), and toward the end of pregnancy I have other things on my mind. So this is a good time to experiment. On Saturday I’m getting out my pasta maker to make fettuccine. 🙂
Wow….what a cook you’ve turned out to be. I remember the 1st time I made homemade bagels. It took me all day. Your Uncle Blair was impressed. Wow that was years ago.
