Book Recommendation

August 19, 2004 - By Jen

I recently purchased a copy of “Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World” for a friend’s birthday (Bonnie, I hope you don’t read this before it arrives in your mailbox!). It’s a book I read during my pregnancy, and it’s definitely a book filled with great insight and wisdom.

The story of Mary and Martha is found in the Bible in Luke Chapter 10. I tend to be a little more like Martha–while I long to sit at Jesus’ feet as Mary did, I easily become distracted by the daily demands around me. The author of “Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World”, Joanna Weaver, hit on several topics that were helpful to me: distraction, discouragement, doubt, worry, intimacy with God, service for Him, teachability, love and balance, to name a few. I would definitely recommend this book to any woman who desires to deepen her walk with God in the midst of the busyness of life. Hopefully you’ll find your appetite for the things of God increasing, too.
