It’s a GIRL! (probably)

January 7, 2004 - By Aaron Kerr

We had our highly anticipated ultrasound today, and although these things are never 100% certain, the doctor felt fairly sure that our little baby is a GIRL! Jen and I are both super excited. I think we both really wanted a girl first, and it looks like we’re going to get our wish. Read on for a few more details and some pictures from the ultrasound.

It definitely is a little tricky at first when you see an ultrasound to know exactly what you’re seeing. Everything is shown on a tiny black and white monitor and there is a lot of movement. Our doctor, who is very used to this of course, could make things out very well. But for the first minute or so, when he would point at a spot and say “These are the legs here,” we just had to take his word for it.

But after a few minutes, you get used to it. It also helps when the baby moves around and you get to see different angles. Toward the end of the ultrasound, we got some really great views where the detail was very clear. A few pictures of those are below:

The baby’s torso, facing down, with the spine, heart, and head clearly in profile…

Here is the baby’s right hand. You can see the little individual fingers…

And finally, a shot of a foot…

Although we are almost certain of the girl’s name that we want to use, we’re keeping it a secret at this point. Also, all the measurements of the baby that were taken during the ultrasound seem to confirm May 23 as a good due date. So we’ll continue to look forward to that date.
