We discovered recently that Kayla is quite allergic to mosquitos. Whenever she gets a bite, especially if it’s close to her eyes, she swells up really badly.
Kayla got a bite next to her eye on Friday. Knowing how badly she can swell, and also knowing that we had pictures scheduled for Monday morning, I went to Rite Aid and bought a Benadryl stick to apply to the bite. If helped, and the bite was doing quite well on Sunday evening. So we were all set for pictures.
Well, then Kayla got another bite Sunday night. This one was right between her eyes. So we called off the pictures and rescheduled. Here’s Kayla at her birthday party yesterday. The picture doesn’t quite show how bad the swelling was …
And here she is today …
The swelling on her forehead went down, but it kind of traveled to her eye lids. She’s tough and doesn’t complain too much about it, but it makes me sad every time I look at her. Hopefully it will be better soon.
Wow what a difference a day makes. It looks like it has gone down about 75%. I’m glad that she is improving. 🙂

hey jen!
i have a couple things that might help. i am really allergic to mosquito bites and it’s really frustrating. something that works is if you can put a little rubbing alcohol on the bite right after it happens, it seems to lessen the swelling a little. and this is going to sound really weird, but when i have really badly swollen bites, i make a little paste with meat tenderizer and water. and put the paste on what is the center of the bite. for some reason it draws out the poison and helps the bite heal more quickly. might be hard on a two year old though! but if you put a bandaid over it, it really does work! the mosquitos are really bad right now, i feel bad for kayla 🙁 i know how yucky it feels, i don’t even want to go outside right now, they are just everywhere! glad to see she is doing better though! i have other tips, email me if you are interested!
