It All Started with Strawberry Shortcake

April 17, 2008 - By Jen

A number of weeks ago my mom gave a book to Kayla and Madeline called “Strawberry Shortcake and the Butterfly Garden.” The girls fell in love with it, and soon both had memorized most of the book. We started talking about butterflies and how we would love to see a butterfly garden someday. A few days later I saw on my friend Mel’s blog that she was taking a field trip with her daughter to the Dow Gardens in Midland for a butterfly exhibit. I found out more information, and we formulated a plan to see the beautiful butterflies.

Last Saturday we took a day trip over to Midland. The girls were fascinated by the butterflies. Here’s a picture of my mom with the girls:

And here are the girls trying to get butterflies to land on their arms. Kayla specifically chose a red shirt that morning because she knew butterflies like bright colors!

What a wonderful little trip! I’m sure they enjoyed it very much 🙂 Did any butterflies land on them after all?

That was such a fun trip. It was so cool to observe the girls. It was obvious that they had learned a lot from the book. Too bad the silly butterflies landed on Mommie & Grandma and not on the girls.
