Every summer it seems like we have a sizable population of yellow jacket wasps living near our house. This year is no different. Sometimes when I’m out playing with the girls I’ll see dozens of wasps hovering over the grass. Aaron, unfortunately, was stung a couple weeks ago, but other than that the rest of us have been ok. Still, the presence of the wasps is very unnerving with little ones, so tonight we went to battle.
The four of us were outside playing this afternoon, and Aaron and I started watching the wasps to see if they were going back to a hive. It took about 20 or 30 minutes of just watching them before we found it–their home! They were on the front of the house, near the porch, up high. Aaron got the binoculars so we could get a better look. But as he watched them more, he discovered there was not only one hive but five! The others had made homes in our shutters.
After the girls were in bed this evening, and after the wasps had returned home for the night, Aaron attacked the nests with three bottles of Raid Wasp & Hornet. The poor critters died instantly once they came in contact with the spray. Hopefully when we play outside tomorrow our yard will be safer and more relaxing for all of us. 🙂
Good job Aaron and Jenni. Those silly bees thinking that they can hover around those darling little girls. 🙂
